Digger has been going to the gym every single day since coming to USC . It’s a serious commitment on his behalf and I have been very encouraging. However I haven’t noticed any change in his physique! It was really a mystery.
Thinking maybe his weight training was suffering from a lack of a muscle focus I asked him if he had a routine once he was actually at the gym. He said. “no I don’t have a routine I just decide when I get there, some days I go pool first and then hot tub and sometimes I just play some table tennis, sit in the sauna and then just dip in the pool to cool off.” Mystery solved.
N.B. Our Gym is only a couple of years old and is called ‘Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center.’ It is named after the late US Senator and former governor of South Carolina James Strom Thurmond who is famous for not just turning 100 years old in office but as being one of the loudest voices against the Civil Rights Act in 1964. A strange choice in our multicultural university to name your gym after a man famously quoted as saying “all the laws of Washington and all the bayonets of the Army cannot force the Negro into our homes, into our schools, our churches and our places of recreation and amusement.” #OnlyInSouthCarolina
